The challenge
HarperCollins wanted to create an iPhone app to accompany the release of I, Partridge - Alan Partridge's official autobiography. The book was released in a number of different formats - including eBook, audiobook and hardback. The app's challenge was to enhance the experience of reading the book across all of these formats.
The approach
Together with HarperCollins, we set about creating the Alan Partridge Writer's Room. Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci and their fellow writers created new material for Alan's notebook, showing his inner thoughts during the writing of the book. Selected clips from the audiobook found their way into Alan's Dictaphone, providing an insight into Alan's audio notes during the book's creation. And the book's original soundtrack - annotated meticulously throughout the text - was recreated as playable snippets from Alan's CD collection, something you simply can't do in a hardback edition.
